Transfer Your Domain

How to Transfer Domains

Whether you're transferring a number of domains to consolidate with a single host, or transfering an existing domain to begin hosting with Superb, there are a number of ICANN requirements to satisfy. Here is a general overview of the most critical information, plus some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Overview

  1. Only unlocked domains can be transferred. The current registrar needs to unlock the domain you want to transfer.
  2. The following Top Level Domains (TLDs) require a special authorization key or EPP code from your current registrar before a transfer can be initiated: com, net, org, info, biz, us, in, cn, com.cn, net.cn, org.cn, com.tw, org.tw, idv.tw.
  3. To initiate the transfer, you must be the domain's administrator and have access to the email address shown in "whois." For most domains, an authorization email will be sent to that email address for confirmation. Be sure to follow the recommended steps carefully; if not followed to the letter, the transfer will be cancelled.
  4. ICANN policy dictates that you cannot transfer a domain only recently registered (ie, within the past 60 days.)
  5. If you renewed your domain with your current registrar within the past 45 days, you will not be able to get an additional year when you transfer to us.
  6. If, however, your domain name is not newly registered and has not just been renewed, an additional year will be added to your domain when it is transferred to us.

Transfer FAQs

Q: I want to transfer my .ca domain to Superb, but I do not have a EPP/Authorization code. What is my next step?

A: This is a very common question for domain owners who want to consolidate domains into one hosting company, but find the missing EPP/Authorization code a challenge. .CA domain transfers do NOT require a EPP/Authorization code to proceed with the transfer to Superb. Simply log into your myCP account, initiate the transfer and we will contact your previous registrant for you, notifying them of your intentions to transfer your domain. You will receive an e-mail authorizing the transfer of the domain, and once you reply to this e-mail, the transfer of your domain typically takes 5-7 business days to complete.

Q: How do I transfer my domain to a different registrar?

A: To transfer a domain, unlock your domain by visiting myCP -> Manage Domains -> [your domain] -> Unlock. Once you've unlocked your domain, you will need to request your EPP code. To request your EPP code please use your myCP-->Domain Names-->Manage Domains-->Click on the domain you wish to transfer-->Request EEP. After you've received your authorization code, you can then initiate the transfer request at the receiving registrar. Keep in mind a transfer can typically take 5-7 business days to propagate.
